On its fifty-eighth year, the Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC) of the School of Social Sciences, Ateneo de Manila University is pleased to announce this Call for Proposals for the IPC Merit Research Awards (MRA).
The Awards seek to advance research in the social sciences. Proponents are asked to present a written proposal with clearly stated research objectives, the proposed study’s theoretical significance, and the research methods required.
The IPC will support studies by faculty and researchers of the Ateneo de Manila University (MRA-ADMU) and by Research Groups of the School of Social Sciences (MRA-SOSS). The principal investigator/lead proponent of the proposed research should be a full-time faculty or researcher of the Ateneo de Manila University.
Research proposals for the MRA-ADMU are generally individual submissions whereas proposals for the MRA-SOSS should be collaborative (preferably across departments). All the proponents of proposals submitted to the MRA-SOSS Program must be members of a Research Group of the School of Social Sciences.
The research priority areas for the Merit Research Awards for both ADMU faculty and researchers (MRA-ADMU) and SOSS Research Groups (MRA-SOSS) include:
- Religious change and transformation
- Women and gender
- Social dynamics of agriculture and labor
- Asset building and social capital formation in community-based health, education, shelter, and natural resource management
- Urban renewal and rural development
- Political accountability
- Poverty reduction; resilience and agency of marginalized groups
- New media and social transformation
Proposal guidelines
The proposed project must be completed within 12 months, beginning June 2019. The maximum research award for ADMU faculty and researchers (MRA-ADMU)is PhP 500,000.00; and PhP 1,000,000.00 for the SOSS Research Groups (MRA-SOSS).
The IPC Merit Research Awards are granted on a competitive basis. The MRA Guidelines and Application Forms (for the MRA-ADMU and the MRA-SOSS) are attached to this page.
The deadline for the submission of the accomplished application form and the research proposal is Thursday, 31 January 2019. Hard copies should be submitted to the Institute of Philippine Culture (IPC) at Room 213 of the Frank Lynch Hall, Social Development Complex (care of IPC Administrative Officer, Ma. Shyl Angelica B. Sales). Soft copies must also be emailed to the IPC at <ipc.soss@ateneo.edu> and <eleviste@ateneo.edu>.
The recipients of the IPC Merit Research Awards for school year 2019-20 will be announced on Monday, 22 April 2019. The research will be undertaken in school year 2019-20 (June 2019 to May 2020).
